🎎 Vintage Blue Glazed Guinomi Sake Cup – Japan Antique Roadshow

$53.66 AUD

🎎 This handmade guinomi (ぐい呑み) is a charming example of mid-Showa period Japanese ceramic artistry. Finished in a soft celadon blue glaze, its surface is laced with a fine crackle pattern that speaks of time and careful craftsmanship. But perhaps most captivating are the subtle, dark silhouettes of birds—caught mid-flight—subtly revealed beneath the translucent glaze. These abstract avian forms evoke a poetic sense of motion and freedom, as if the sky had been captured in the palm of one’s hand.

The cup’s small, footed form is classically balanced: it measures approximately 5.5 cm across the top, stands 4.25 cm tall, with a narrow base of 2.2 cm, and weighs just 60 grams. Its delicate form and intricate surface details embody the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabithe appreciation of imperfection, impermanence, and natural simplicity.

No chips, no cracks—only the gentle marks of age and use. It remains in excellent condition and is ready for continued appreciation, whether in use or on display.
