🎎 Green-glazed calligraphy sake flask with floral motif – Japan Antique Roadshow

kr 502,92 NOK

🎎 This beautifully crafted Japanese sake flask (徳利・とっくり, tokkuri) stands 13.5 cm tall and measures 6 cm across the base, weighing a substantial 220 grams. It features a striking green glaze over natural stoneware with a textured, brush-painted calligraphic flower motif. The surface of the flask has a softly flowing glaze pattern, and the exposed areas show fine kan'nyū (貫入) — delicate crackling in the glaze that naturally develops over time and adds character and age.

This flask likely dates from the mid to late 昭和 (Shōwa) period — approximately the 1950s to 1980s — a time of cultural reflection and artistic renewal in post-war Japan. Though traditionally used to serve warm sake, it also makes a wonderful small bud vase or understated display piece.

A single glazed-over chip can be seen on the rim (visible in the photos), but this does not detract from the item’s appeal or usability. The overall condition is very good, with no cracks and only minor marks from age and use.

The unglazed base shows ring marks from the potter's wheel and kiln process, while the upper body’s lush green glaze appears to have been applied in a loose and expressive motion, capturing the spontaneity that is valued in Japanese ceramic aesthetics. This balance of rustic and refined reflects mingei (民芸), or “folk craft,” principles.
