It was likely purchased as a souvenir from Nihondaira, a scenic hilltop overlooking Shizuoka City and Shimizu, known for its views of Mount Fuji—a popular destination for outings, dates, and family visits during that era.
The wooden clamshell-style frame opens to reveal two panels: on the left side is a small mirror with the place name “Nihondaira” etched in Japanese, while the right side holds a glass-covered compartment containing a portrait photograph of a smartly dressed young man in school uniform—possibly a celebrity or teen idol from the time. The photo can be replaced, making the frame still functional for use.
The frame remains structurally sound and stands nicely despite one missing foot. The mirror and glass show discoloration from age, but no major cracks or breaks.
