🎎 Vintage Japanese Wooden Crayon Box – Mid Showa Era – Japan Antique Roadshow

164,34 zł

This humble wooden box, likely dating from the 1960s or 70s, once held the crayons of a child growing up in postwar Japan. It’s made from a smooth, richly toned hardwood—possibly Toona sinensis, known as Chinese mahogany or Chinese cedar—and features a working hinged lid secured by slender bamboo or brass pins.

Time has left its signature on the surface: scratches, pencil marks, faded color stains, and softened corners—all signs of use that lend it a gentle authenticity. The most delightful detail lies inside the lid, where the word “くれよん” (kureyon – “crayon”) is written in hiragana, quietly confirming the box’s role in a child’s creative world.

📏 Approximate dimensions:
• Length: 9 cm
• Width: 6 cm
• Height: 3.5 cm
• Weight: 40 g
Material: Possibly Toona sinensis (Chinese mahogany/cedar)
Condition: Visible signs of use including scratches, smudges, and markings
Era: Mid-Showa (circa 1960s–70s)
Function: Crayon box, toy chest, or keepsake case

Though small, the box captures something enduring—a time when even children’s tools were built to last, when everyday objects were crafted with thought, and when handwriting inside a lid could say more than any label.
