🎎 Crackle Glaze Japanese Sake Cup – Thick-Walled Stoneware – Japan Antique Roadshow
This is a small but striking Japanese stoneware sake cup, notable for its thick-walled form and complex crackle glaze. The soft celadon tone with reddish crackle veining evokes classical Chinese Guan ware, while the modest foot and unglazed base reflect traditional Japanese ceramic sensibilities. Its weight, just over 100 grams, gives it a solid, grounding presence in the hand—perfect for serving warm sake with intention.
The cup measures approximately 6 cm across the lip, 3.5 cm at the foot, and stands 4.5 cm tall. It is in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, scratches, or stains. A faint mark or impressed signature may be present at the center of the foot, though it is not clearly legible. The thick stoneware walls offer superior heat retention, making this a particularly functional choice for serving atsukan (hot sake) in colder seasons.
