🎎 Vintage Japanese Kindergarten Milk Cup - Japan Antique Roadshow
This lightweight golden milk cup from mid-Shōwa era Japan (昭和時代, 1926–1989) offers a nostalgic glimpse into postwar childhood. Likely used in a yōchien (幼稚園, kindergarten) or hoikuen (保育園, nursery school), it would’ve served warm milk during lunch breaks or snack time.
Made from anodized aluminum—valued in postwar Japan for its durability, lightness, and resistance to corrosion—the cup features a soft golden finish created through dyeing during the anodizing process. Though the gold resembles brass, it’s purely aluminum.
The riveted handle and concentric spin marks inside reflect practical, mid-century industrial design. Surface wear—including scratches, scuffs, and minor dents—attest to decades of use by little hands.
